A Breath of Fresh Air for the Financial District - South of Temperance

Well, I guess it's official. The financial district has a new hot spot. But this one is different though, really. It's not just adding to the exciting night life downtown, it's not just offering a great place to sit down for a quick lunch, or providing another stylish dinner escape. No, it seems that the always-bustling South of Temperance at 20 Adelaide West has become the new place to go for any one of the affluent, hungry frequenters of the financial district, no matter what kind of visit they're in the mood for.

Heralded as having the biggest patio downtown (a claim that is lofty to be sure, but not  unsubstantiated), the restaurant introduces one of the most lively and casual, yet upscale destinations for food, or fun, to be found in the city's dining landscape. The space invites you step out of the daily grind and into the breezy,  refreshing environment for great food, and a light, social vibe. And they know how to make use of all the room. The open air is outfitted with simple, classy decor, including some very comfortable looking couches, and, while the patio is always busy, the fresh air and roomy layout ensure that it is never stifling.

Much like the location, the menu is all about versatility. Serving simple, tasty fare for all occasions, the kitchen is just as responsible as the patrons for the social, carefree voices that fill the air. Whether they're treating you to a fresh, healthy salad, a tasty, satisfying brunch, or a savoury, sophisticated dinner, South of Temperance never fails to please. With a great range of appetizers and entrees, neither the rowdy group of friends rifling through chicken wings, nor the couple out for a romantic dinner are left out of place. One prime example are the Adelaide Street Sliders. The three miniature burgers, whose moist, tender patties are topped with gooey cheddar cheese and sweet confit cherry tomato, work just as well as a quick lunch as finger food between friends. The rack of lamb, however, served in  a luscious shiraz reduction and flanked by a simple, but well-matched quinoa salad, screams upscale dining. With the broad, versatile menu being complemented by an outstanding (later in the night, perhaps even staggering) selection of wines and cocktails, as well as a top-notch line up of specialty coffees, the patio has everything it takes to keep bay-streeters happy morning, noon, or night.

Having found great success, and a substantial crowd of suit-sporting, blackberry-toting regulars after being open only a few months, it looks like this is one hot spot whose popularity is here to stay. Since opening its doors, the restaurant has become an obvious choice for evening get-togethers, not to mention an oasis for professionals hoping to escape the office for a casual snack, satisfying meal, or long-overdue party. And, combining its quality food and excellent service with a fun, refreshing atmosphere, it seems as if South of Temperance is just the spark of life this part of the city needed.
