When you walk the PATH it doesn’t take long to notice that there tend to be some pretty well put-together people walking around down here. Most of the time it isn’t hard to pick out the ones that spend their days commanding the attention of boardrooms and making big decisions; their sharp suits and shined shoes articulate how important it can be to look the part.
But while many prepare for their meetings and presentations with styles as strict and stern as the office can be, others realize that there’s more to looking good than being all prim and proper. Sometimes nailing the look is just about having some fun, being yourself. Because neatness and refinement don’t mean a thing if they aren’t paired with confidence – the kind that only comes with knowing you look good on your own terms.
And so a new men’s studio has set up shop in the Exchange Tower, having taken their cue from the growing number of young professionals on the PATH, many of whom are still getting the hang of looking at home among their colleagues, or learning how to avoid getting lost in the crowd. In many ways Maverick aims to do the same itself, introducing its own unique brand of style to a part of the city that many already flock to in hopes of keeping their look up to snuff.
When it comes down to it, that’s really what sets Maverick apart from any number of other hair dressers or salons that call the financial district home: it’s a place where guys can go to take care of themselves, and still feel like guys...
While getting a much-needed update for my own derelict do, I was able to learn more from Joseph, who works alongside his colleague David as one of Maverick's talented stylists, and co-owner of the new location. Since his father founded the company just two short years ago, Joseph tells me, Maverick has expanded to include three bustling locations, and their keen understanding of what guys really look for in a haircut or shave has made them a staple among men across the GTA.
When it comes down to it, that’s really what sets Maverick apart from any number of other hair dressers or salons that call the financial district home: it’s a place where guys can go to take care of themselves, and still feel like guys. They can look good without having to feel like they’re fussing. It’s a refreshing departure for a group of people that, from their schedules to their outfits to their workplace , often find themselves having to play by someone else’s rules. Whether you’re a fresh-faced newcomer eager to make a name for yourself, or an established exec that just wants to shake your image up a bit, it’s always nice to know that not everyone is worried about how you’re supposed to look. Some still care about how you feel, what works for you.
Having opened their doors just in time for the winter months, the stylists at Maverick have quickly developed a loyal following, becoming an instant favourite among working guys in the market for a style update, and especially those hoping to maintain their Movember Mos. With Canadians everywhere so enthusiastically embracing the month long scruff-off, and more and more young professionals making their way into the city, it seems as though these purveyors of style and refinement will be attracting stubbly-faced patrons for years to come. Maverick Studio for Men can be found in The Exchange Tower, just opposite Starbucks; drop in if you're ever looking for a new haircut, a quality shave, or any of the grooming products and accessories you need to complete your look.
